Geographical Restrictions on Ebooks. WTF?

After the Amazon fail brouhaha, he's another one:

Encrypted ebooks now have geographic restrictions.  These ebooks cannot be sold outside the US or Canada.  So if you're a fan of Charlaine Harris, J.R. Ward, Laurell K. Hamilton, James Patterson and all of the famous and big authors out there, you're out of luck if you don't live in the US or Canada.  Your billing address must be in the countries mentioned, otherwise you will not be allowed to buy these books.  WTF?!  They are basically refusing my money!

I live in the Middle East.  If you live in France or the UK or Australia or anywhere else, it still affects you if you buy ebooks.

Here's what Fictionwise states on their FAQ page: )

What's really frustrating is that there are no alternatives.  I now have to purchase the restricted book on print, then pay for the shipping cost (usually cost more than what I paid for the book) and wait for at least 2 weeks for the book to arrive here.  If that's the case, I'll be disinclined to buy books.  The world has gone backwards!

I am not having a good day.

It's about frickin' time!

I saw this news from [info]matthewtime.   I am totally blissed with the news that California has recognized marriage equality for same-sex couples.  Take note of the key results from the ruling.  People from the government just looked a lot smarter.  Here's the link:

On a different topic: I will be busy for the next 3 days studying and taking the Pediatric Advanced Life Support course.  Oh, boy. *sigh*

Love Is Unconditional

Imagine you're a man in the 17th century, in the time where loving other man is still punishable by death.  Imagine that you've just met a beautiful man forever scarred both physically and emotionally, scarred to the point of violent insanity.  How do you save a man that looks like he's beyond redemption when you could hardly save yourself? Thus begins the story of Raised By Wolves by W.A. Hoffman.  A story of unconditional love,  with 17th century Jamaica as the backdrop.  Two tortured souls who will find out who they are by being together.  In a place where there really is honor among thieves, they  will find the meaning of madness, friendship, and most of all, love.

Such a strange, cruel world

Where I live, a man and a woman cannot go in a public restaurant to eat if they are not husband and wife.  If the couple is married, they must carry their marriage certificate at all times.  If they are caught without one they go to jail.  And believe me,  being in jail here is your worst nightmare.  Welcome to my world.

Here's the awful truth:  http://www.arabnews.com/?page=1&section=0&article=109480&d=1&m=5&y=2008

Depressing day

The father of my patient made a complaint against the nurses today.  He was pissed off because we had to wake him up at home to come attend to his daughter, who was in ICU screaming, asking for her father.  His reason:  He spent the whole day at work and needs his sleep.  He said we should have just knocked her out with sedatives and not bother him.

Some days, I think certain people's rights to have kids should be taken away.

First post about Gale

I just want to share this. It's Gale Harold's Showtime Chat with fans January 2001. I've never seen it before and by the time I've finished, I couldn't decide if I should be in awe or be horrified.

Well, I've been making out with dogs since I was three years old... )
